Santa Rosa Women Celebrate One Billion Rising - V-Day 2013

On Feb 14th 2013 V-Day over 350 people, mostly women of all ages, gathered on downtown Santa Rosa to dance in solidarity with others around the world protesting violence against women and girls. Participants in the event, dubbed One Billion Rising, gathered at Courthouse Square and walked over to Santa Rosa Plaza, where they staged a flash mob dance near the hand sculpture outside the mall. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM), and sex slavery. V-Day genera una gran atención a la lucha para detener la violencia contra mujeres y niñas –incluyendo violación sexual, maltrato físico, incesto, mutilación genital y esclavitud sexual. Through V-Day campaigns, local volunteers and college students produce annual benefit performances of The Vagina Monologues, A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer, Any One Of Us: Words From Prison, screenings of V-Day's documentary Until The Violence Stops, and the PBS documentary What I Want My Words To Do To You, Spotlight Teach-Ins and V-Men workshops, to raise awareness and funds for anti-violence groups within their own communities.
