Help Build a New Preschool
in KaPhunga, Swaziland
Swaziland has the highest concentration of HIV/AIDS in the world, with two-fifths of the adult population infected. In Swaziland there are 95,000 orphans, 63,000 as a direct result of AIDS. This constant devastation of the population has resulted in many households run entirely by children, and the number of orphans grows every day.
This project will make a difference in the lives of the villagers of KaPhunga by providing a place where the children can feel a sense of community, giving underprivileged children an affordable education, furnishing the orphans with the stability of at least one solid meal a day and by bolstering the local economy by supplying the villagers with jobs and steady incomes.
The total cost estimate for construction of the classroom and one year of operations is R122,400 (about $15,603). The village will be able to provide yearly funds for the operation of the school once this initial construction takes place, but the help that we are giving them is essential. The foundation that this preschool education will provide has the potential to drastically change the course of these children’s lives. Each child would be guaranteed at least one meal a day, a crucial step towards fighting disease and malnutrition. For all of these reasons, we would greatly appreciate your support for this project. Donate now or learn more.
Support Chen Guangcheng Against Chinese Oppression
Chen Guangcheng is a Chinese activist who was arrested for fighting against forced sterilization. After beatings, intimidation, and a sham trial from which his lawyers were barred, Guangchen was placed under house arrest. Read the Amnesty Internationl flyer (a 210KB PDF) to learn more.
Impeach Bush Now!
Article II, Section 4 of the Constitution of the United States:
The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States shall be removed from office on Impeachment for and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.
He lied to Congress and the American people to gain support for a war of aggression against Iraq. He supervised the construction of a worldwide network of secret prisons for torture and detention without due process. He oversaw an unconstitutional program of domestic spying on innocent Americans. He leaked national secrets for political gain.
Do you want the United States to remain a constitutional democracy?
The Constitution cannot defend itself. It's time for us to act!
Join more than 979,914 of your fellow voters by sending Congress a letter demanding impeachment now at www.ImpeachBush.org. Do more! Download the flyer (a 301 KB PDF) and distribute it.
Don't forget to sign the Dennis Kucinich Impeachement Petition here.

In a San Francisco court hearing, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) defended your Fourth Amendment rights and urged the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to let its class-action lawsuit against AT&T go forward. The case demands that AT&T stop illegally assisting the National Security Agency to snoop on its customers' telephone and Internet communications.
There's much more at stake here than stopping the Bush Administration's illegal spying and holding the telco giant accountable, though. The President is arguing that thin claims of "state secrets" can trump the courts' constitutional duty to uphold the rule of law.
Without judicial review, there's no way to protect ordinary citizens against government abuses of power. No president, now or in the future, should be allowed unfettered authority to evade the courts and trample on your freedom. As Judge Vaughn Walker wrote in rejecting the government's claims at the lower court, "The compromise between liberty and security remains a difficult one. But dismissing this case at the outset would sacrifice liberty for no apparent enhancement of security."
For the past 17 years, EFF has been proud to take on the hard cases to ensure that your liberty is not sacrificed unnecessarily. Please support the EFF in this critical case by donating to EFF at http://secure.eff.org/att .

Get Involved Through a National Lawyer's Guild Student Chapter
NLG Student chapters operate autonomously. Chapters work on issues that affect their local communities or that they are passionate about as a group. At the same time, the Guild has various national-level projects that many student chapters have decided to work on. Go to the NLG web site for a sampling of issues that student chapters are acting on and some materials to help you plug in.
